In the bustling streets of Lagos, “ALLERGIC TO POVERTY” follows Joyce (Chinenye Nnebe), a hardworking orphan juggling multiple cleaning gigs to support her six demanding siblings while cursing her broke life – “Poverty, I beg, carry on give another person!” Her fiery spirit and first-class degree clash with her rundown reality, leading to hilarious rants and desperate prayers for wealth. Fate intervenes when she reunites with her old university pal Sandra (Nancy Desmond), now living posh, who hires Joyce as a cleaner after her agency flakes.
Enter Richard (Deza The Great), Sandra’s wealthy brother, who’s dating the snobby Champagne (possibly Sandra Ifudu in a diva role). Their first encounter is a disaster: In the slums, Richard dismisses Joyce as rude and “broke,” while she claps back at his arrogance. Hiding her poverty to save face, Joyce navigates estate life, bonding with Sandra over shared laughs and support. Tensions spike when Richard refuses to hire Joyce for his business, labeling her a gold-digger, but Sandra champions her friend’s grit.
